CHEVY HOLDS 1ST EVER REGIONAL LAUNCH IN CEBU A PHILIPPINE AUTO INDUSTRY FIRST

Cebu City, Philippines (13 September 2016) – Motoring journalists from around South East Asia converge in this Queen City of Southern Philippines for the regional launch of two iconic Chevrolet brands this week.

General Motors International, managing division of about 109 General Motor markets in the world, is holding the launch and test drive of the new Chevy Trailblazer SUV and Colorado Pick-up in Cebu, a first both for Chevrolet Philippines and the local auto industry as a whole.

The Covenant Cars Corporation Inc., local dealer of General Motors products in the Philippines is proudly hosting this milestone event which starts at the Shangri-la Hotel in Mactan and will take motoring hacks around Cebu City.

Journalists from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia get to experience first hand the performance of the new Trailblazer and Colorado while enjoying the scenic countryside of Cebu.

Lyn Buena, Senior Vice President and Director for Marketing of TCCCI, said they are very excited to hold an event of this magnitude and TCCCI is very honored that GM is doing the launch here.

“This is a clear indication of how the growth of GM and Chevy in the Philippines is recognized by the mother company. The Philippines is either the biggest or the second biggest dealer market in the region and we have grown considerably since we took over seven years ago,” says Buena.

General  Motors has more than doubled their number of dealers nationwide from 12 dealers in 2009 to 25 dealers this year. Unlike the other countries where GM has an actual base office, General Motors products in the Philippines are sold by TCCCI, the official importer and distributor of GM cars, when GM closed their local office after the global financial crash in the early 2000.

Most regional launches for South East Asia by major automotive companies are done in Thailand, Malaysia, Japan or even Australia where car sales and production have higher numbers. This is the first time a global brand is launching two major regional products in the Philippines ahead of the other bigger markets.
