Spend a soulful evening with the enchanting music of renowned concert pianist Leonor Kilayko this Saturday, August 5, 2017, 7 p.m. at The Gallery of Ayala Center Cebu. The concert is free and open the public.
Leonor Kilayko, a homegrown pedagogue par excellence, was raised in Talisay, Negros Occidental. Driven by passion and a thirst for experience, she pursued Bachelor of Music degree in St. Scholastica’s College, Manila and sought her postgraduate studies at the Mannes School of Music in New York, under Russian pedagogue Olga Stroumillo. Kilayko completed the highest degree in performance granted to high caliber music graduates, Konzertexamen, at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Köln in Germany. Her two decades spent concertizing welcomed her to esteemed concert halls in Europe, including the likes of Wigmore Hall in London, Belgishces Haus in Köln, and more.
After living in Germany for 17 years, she returned to the Philippines to pass on her expertise to the next generation of Filipino pianists. Upon the invitations of university deans, she taught at the University of the Philippines College of Music and at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music.
Kilayko also founded the Piano Competition Leonor Kilayko, which aims to discover and support young Filipino pianists. The competition will be held at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium and Minihall, University of the Philippines College of Music on August 28 to September 8, 2017.
